Manatees in the United States are classified as Endangered Species. As listed from USGS, the major threats to manatee survival result from human activities. These gentle mammals are often the victims of motorboat accidents, which leave them with fatal injuries. Moreover, habitat loss and degradation and hunting also put their life at risk.
Manatees also face another threat: water pollution. Trash, toxins, chemicals, and waste are constantly dumped into coastal waters and rivers, gradually building up the levels of plant intoxication. Thus, these gentle herbivores will be intoxicated as they consume polluted water grasses, weeds and algae.
Yet, all of this can be prevented if we start taking collective measures to protect them. What can we do to help? Protect OUR Ocean, Protect OUR Earth.By working together, we can build them a healthier marine habitat!
